AR Toronto - event planning
We believe AR must be fundamentally open, interoperable, extensible, and accessible to all, so that it can create the kinds of opportunities for expressiveness, communication, business and social good that we enjoy on the web and Internet today. (from ardevcamp.org)
AR Toronto is a contribution to this goal of an Open AR Web, and like the original event proposes 'a full day of technical sessions and hacking opportunities in an open format, BarCamp style'.
Nearby:
Planning
For people signing up as interested to attend or help organize freelance writing job, use the section for now, and then we can move details in here.
Goals
The goal of this event is to build on the momentum of the ardevcamp initiative, with a focus on technology sharing, collaboration, and the portability and integration of information across diverse platforms and AR environments.
The event will follow the established ardev model as an informal, grassroots event in which the participants shape an active agenda 'as it happens'. This page serves to provide some basic structure, and to help the organizers coordinate and communicate.
From [AR_DevCamp_interest_list], ardevcamp.org:
None of us claims to "own" the ARdevcamp concept, so no permission is necessary. Just go ahead and do it! All we ask is that any ARdevcamp events be consistent with furthering an open ARweb ecosystem and an open ARweb technology stack; 3D geocodes, image triggered positioning, point cloud mining, 3d cartography, data, semantics, cross-domain interoperability, rendering frame works, network streaming and caching, sensor integration, apis, etc. We also request that special care be taken so that ARdevcamp does not become a captured brand of [welcomed] commercial interest sponsors.
Standards and diversity
AR brings together an great diversity of topics, skills and technologies. The primary goal of this event is to bring together interesting, collaboration-minded people who are working on pieces of the larger puzzle: cartographers, game designers, GIS professionals, artists, programmers, interface designers, entrepreneurs and activists (amongst others) all have much to contribute. The event will be structured to allow natural clusters and patterns to evolve. While the event has a very open scope, we should also emphasise the unifying narrative established by ardevcamp.org: the need to build AR systems that are open, compatible and interoperable, while allowing for creativity, diversity and rapid exploration of new ideas. Following this theme we can have special sessions on data sharing, interoperability and standards, without imposing too much structure in advance.
